Portraits and tokens on stage

The positioning of the characters’ avatars is crucial to the visual novel immersion of Dice Queen. In the “Portraits and Tokens” section of Behind the Scenes, the narrator calibrates exactly how the heroes, heroines and NPCs position themselves and scale on the screen.

How the “Portraits and tokens” block works

In the Portraits and records tab:

  • Division by sides: You can choose whether a character is positioned on the left or right of the stage (simulating face-to-face dialogue or separating allies from enemies).
  • Activation on stage: A simple click on the portrait card activates or deactivates that character’s presence on the live stage.
  • Open the sheet with double click: Two quick clicks on the portrait card open the character’s complete sheet in a drop-down window to check status or change attributes.
  • Unified search: The search field at the top filters portraits and records from both sides simultaneously.

Global size and distance settings

To avoid visual disharmony, the size and spacing of portraits are controlled globally for the entire table:

  1. Portrait Size:
  • A slider allows you to adjust the dimensions of avatars between half the standard size (minimum) and triple the standard size (maximum).
  1. Distance between portraits:
  • Controls the horizontal spacing between characters aligned on the same side, varying between half the standard distance and the full distance.

[!NOTE] By default, sliders save their position in the database as soon as you release the control, ensuring stability and avoiding network crashes.

The adaptive size feature

When you have many characters on the scene (for example, a large group of adventurers talking to a retinue of guards):

  • Activation by toggle: When turning on the option “Adaptive size”, the manual size and distance sliders are deactivated.
  • Expanded limit: The stage capacity is expanded to up to 10 portraits per side.
  • Intelligent dynamic calculation: The system recalculates size and spacing automatically. The more characters enter the scene, the smaller and closer each one is positioned, ensuring that no one is cut off the screen.
  • When you disable adaptive size, the previous manual size and distance settings are restored.
